Cheap Nokia Sim Free & Pay As You Go Phone Deals

Pay As You Go is the no contract, no credit-check, no commitment, no monthly bills way of getting a cheap mobile phone. The biggest advantage of this is that it is impossible to run up a huge phone bill as you can only make calls once you have already paid for them. There are several disadvantages: You always pay a lot more for the initial phone, there are various restrictions on use compared to normal contract phones & calls are generally more expensive than on a normal contract tariff.

The Nokia N95 is an impressive device, and one that is set to become the top high end smartphone for 2007. What impresses about the N95 is that so many features have been packed into a relatively small device. Within a device little bigger than the N73 is a 5 megapixel camera (with VGA video capture too), connectivity options galore (USB, Infrared, Bluetooth, GSM, WCDMA, HSDPA and WLAN), integrated GPS, 150MB of internal memory (expandable via a microSD slot), and a feature packed and application laden software platfrom - S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. But what's it really like to use? Here are some first impressions.
On picking up the N95 for the first time, it is evident that this is a smartphone that has gone a diet compared to some of its predecessors. It is light in the hand and, as is typical of slider phones, has short stubby dimensions. The N95 manages to fall into the camp of phones that feel smaller than their dimensions suggest. Compared to both the N80 and N93, the N95 feels considerably smaller. It compares favourably with the Nokia N73 (it's shorter, but slightly wider). There's a large 2.6 inch screen which looks absolutely great, below this are the main control keys. First impressions are that these keys are well laid out and easy to use. The big S60 application key is particularly good. A quick push on the bottom of the device pushes the screen
up to reveal the full keypad. Each row of keys is on its own ridge and there is good tactile feedback. They feel a little cramped after the large keypad on the N93, but are a big improvement over the N73's and N80's keypads.

On either side of the device there are speakers. These produce surprisingly good stereo sound - certainly giving some of the best speaker-only audio output I have heard on a phone. The left hand side also houses a 3.5mm audio jack. It really is good to see Nokia adopting standard jacks like this. In the box a remote control / microphone unit is supplied, which means it is still possible to use the phone in hands-free mode. There is also a microSD card slot, which takes card up to 2GB in size. On the right hand side of the device there are various keys used in conjunction with the camera (capture, gallery and zoom).

The camera, which is 5 megapixels and uses Carl Zeiss optics, is on the back of the device and is accompanied by a 'ring-slider' which open and closes the shutter. Opening the shutter activates the camera application. To take pictures, the phone is held horizontally with the screen used as a view finder, as on the N73. In this mode, the capture key is on the top right of the device. This means the N95 is used in the same way as most point and shoot digital cameras, and it captures this experience more closely than its predecessors. The camera application has a number of extras, camera options now include 4 ISO settings, contrast and sharpness adjustment, and an enhanced burst mode (now with gaps of up to 15 minutes).

Although the QWERTY-tastic Nokia E90 Communicator won't officially go on sale until next month, an anxious buyer ponied up the equivalent of US$5000 to get his hands on the first unit. Sold to Hartono Gunawan (center) at a charity auction in Jakarta, Indonesia, the E90 is the latest in Nokia's line of powerful communicators.

You might be wondering why they pulled this promotional stunt in Indonesia. Well, the first communicator -- Nokia 9000 -- was launched there, and ever since, Nokia "has released all its communicators in Indonesia first." The money raised through the E90 auction will be donated to UNICEF.

Nokia Indonesia general manager Hasan Aula and Indonesia's UNICEF Ambassador Ferry Salim Of the three, Gunawan looks the least happy. C'mon man! You're the proud owner of the first

Motorola's MOTORIZR Z3

by tomhoadley @ 2007-05-07 - 06:31:28

MOTORIZR Z3
Motorola know that consumers love the sleek, thin designs of the RAZR and KRZR phones. The RIZR Z3 is a natural addition to Motorola's range, bringing the same famous design queues from its previous handsets to a slider-style device. The RIZR Z3 is a quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz) phone with support for EDGE and GPRS data, and is armed with a 2 megapixel fixed focus camera with an LED flash. It also has Bluetooth, but the design will surely be the feature to win many hearts. After a long wait to get our hands on a review unit, we can finally put the Motorola's rising slider to the test.

Physical Aspects

Frequent readers will know that we love the soft touch rubber compound that was first made famous on the Motorola E398. I am glad to report that instead of the glossy fingerprint and scratch magnet surface of the KRZR, Motorola Mobile Phones has opted for this rubber compound to wrap the Z3. This makes it nice to the touch, provides extra grip, and makes the phone less susceptible to scratches. However, our review unit has received abuse from previous testers, and some parts of the rubber compound have actually been scratched off. I apologize for the less than perfect unit in the photographs, but these things are out of our control.

The Z3 is built fantastically. Every millimeter of it is perfect and it feels very solid. The slider mechanism feels robust and smooth as it clicks into place every time you slide the Z3 open or closed. There were no squeaks or creaks found even though our unit has been heavily abused. This speaks volumes about the solid build of the Motorola Z3.

On the front, just next to the Motorola emblem, is a hidden Bluetooth indicator LED. This will flash blue whenever a Bluetooth connection is in progress. You will find a small thumb grip just below the display to provide grip when sliding the phone open and closed. Below that, the large 5-way navigational d-pad is flanked by the left and right soft keys, web, clear, call, and end keys. The d-pad is adequately raised and is comfortable to use. The web and clear keys, however, are a bit too small and cramped for easy usage.

To the right of the phone, the voice dial key is located towards the top and the dedicated camera key is located alongside the miniUSB port towards the bottom. On the left of the Z3 are the volume keys and smart key. The 2 megapixel camera lens is located on the back. There is no self-portrait mirror on the Z3, so users will have to rely on trial and error to shoot proper pictures of themselves. The loudspeaker is located on the lower portion of the back of the Z3.

Sliding open the Z3, the familiar looking flush keypad as seen on the RAZR and KRZR is present, and has a nice blue backlight. The keypad is comfortable to use, providing good feedback, and each key is sized just right. Rubber inserts between the keys also do a good job at separating the buttons.

The Z3 measures 45.5mm x 105.5mm x 16mm (1.8" x 4.2" x 0.6") and weighs approximately 115g (4.0oz). It slips nicely into my pocket and should pose no problem at all if it were to be tossed in a handbag. I simply love the design of the Z3 and its solid feel just cements it as one of the best-made phones I have seen in a long time.
